New Zealand 20th century
Russ McLean is a local photographer who started serious photography after being given a camera 4 years ago. He has engaged in a series of workshops with a variety of tutors who have shared their knowledge and expertise and shaped who he has become as a photographer.
Russ depicts the southern region with clarity and beauty in a way that shows his patience in waiting for ‘the moment’ that will reflect the stunning environment he lives in.
The images he crafts all depict a place in time as he sees it. He subscribes to the thought that neither the camera nor the digital darkroom ultimately determines the value or the quality of the image – it is the visual perception of the photographer which generates interest and evokes response.
